(Birmingham) The institute was founded in 1932, in memory of Sir William Barber, to promote the study of art history in the university of Birmingham. A study collection of paintings has been built up, of wide range (from Simone Martini to Magritte) and of high quality, housed in a building by Robert Atkinson (1883–1953).
