Bailey bridge

Temporary bridge, capable of rapid construction, which was widely used by the Allied forces in *World War II. Designed by Donald Bailey (1901–85), it consisted of rectangular lattice-work steel sections, made from prefabricated standard parts, which could be joined together either as a fixed bridge or on floating pontoons.
