Badminton House
|
|
(19km/12m N of Bath) Home of the dukes of Beaufort since 1682, originally 17C but much added to by William *Kent c.1740. Kent also laid out the grounds which were extended later by Capability *Brown. The kennels of the Beaufort hunt are at Badminton; this famous pack of foxhounds has always been a family concern, and since its beginnings in the 18C the duke of Beaufort has usually been the master. Since 1949 the most important of the British *three-day events has taken place in the grounds of Badminton House each May.
