Abernethy

(14km/9m SE of Perth)
Village which was an important Pictish centre. Of its 9C monastery there survives a well-preserved *round tower. The nearby Castle Law, an *Iron-Age hill fort of about 500 BC, is one of the best examples of the Scottish 'timber-laced' technique, in which stone ramparts have an internal frame of wood.
