Alexander II
|
|
(1198–1249) King of Scotland from 1214, son of William I. His long reign coincided with the even longer one of the English king *Henry III, whose sister Joan he married in 1221. The rival claims of the kings to parts of each other's territory were settled by the Peace of York in 1237, establishing the Scottish border along roughly its present line. He was succeeded by his son, Alexander III (see the *royal house of Scotland).
