(24km/15m SE of Aberystwyth) Ruins of a *Cistercian abbey built in the 12–14C. At this period it was one of the most important centres in Wales, rich from local wool. It was the site of important assemblies and the burial place for several princely families. The name is Latin for 'carpets of flowers'.
