Pudding of berries (usually raspberries or blackberries with red or black currants), pressed until the juice has soaked through and darkened the casing of white bread. Mrs *Beeton calls it a 'hydropathic pudding', saying that it derived from 18C spa towns, probably originally Bath, as a healthy dish for those taking the waters.
