(London W1) Britain's main pressure group for the blind, which also provides training, runs schools for blind children and is a major publisher of books in braille. It descends from the British and Foreign Blind Association, a committee of blind people brought together in 1863 by Thomas Armitage (a surgeon who had recently gone blind) with the purpose of achieving education for the blind.
