Mothering Sunday
|
|
The middle or fourth Sunday in Lent, on which it was the tradition to 'go a-mothering'. This involved visiting one's parents and either giving or receiving a cake, in particular a *simnel cake. In recent years the term Mother's Day has been more common, borrowed from the USA (where it applies to the second Sunday in May).
