Mansfield Park
|
|
(1814) Novel by Jane *Austen, about the level-headed Fanny Price who refuses to engage in the flirtatious behaviour of the Bertram family, her cousins, with whom she has grown up at Mansfield Park. She even turns down a proposal of marriage from the eligible Henry Crawford – to the fury of the head of the household, Sir Thomas Bertram, until Henry's running off with a married woman proves the soundness of Fanny's judgement. She loves Sir Thomas's son Edmund, a clergyman, who finally tires of the frivolities of social life, falls for Fanny and marries her.
