English breakfast
|
|
A concept now surviving in the breakfast rooms of hotels rather than in British homes. An English breakfast is distinguished by a cooked course, consisting traditionally of fried eggs, bacon and sausage – with sometimes fried mushrooms, potatoes and in the north of England black pudding. This is in addition to a choice of fruit juice, cereal, and toast or rolls with butter and marmalade, which on their own are described as 'continental'. Both forms of breakfast are accompanied by tea or coffee.
